The white and red steel body caboose on display at the depot/museum represents the new Soo Line colors that were adopted in the 1960s. The caboose was built in 1963 in the Soo Line Shops in Minneapolis, Minnesota. When purchased it was rolling stock serving the Soo Line and its successors; first the Wisconsin Central and then the Canadian Pacific. The Frederic Area Historical Society purchased the caboose in 2001 from the Canadian Pacific Railway. The society renovated the caboose and opened it to the public in 2003.
