The depot/museum is located in the village of Frederic, Wisconsin. The village is located on Wisconsin State Highway 35 about 80 miles northeast of Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota and 80 miles south of Superior, Wisconsin. As a crow flies it is about 30 miles east of the Wisconsin/Minnesota border in the Indianhead region of Wisconsin.

Casey Jones' last public appearance in November 2001 at the Frederic Depot/Museum.

The Soo Line Depot building was erected in 1901 and served the village and surrounding area until 1982. The depot was renovated in the early 1990s and was converted into a museum. In 2003 the depot was listed in the National Registry of Historic Places.

The depot/museum is open to the public weekends and holidays from Memorial Day weekend through leaf season in October. At other dates and times the museum may be visited by appointment. The depot/museum is open on weekends and holidays from 11am to 4pm. The season begins Memorial Day weekend and continues through leaf season in October. Tour guides are on duty. If you would a special tour, call 715-327-4892 or 715-327-4158 for arrangements.
